Privacy Policy

Lounge Map UK doesn't use cookies, doesn't track you across sites, and doesn't have user accounts or a backend server. It does count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics (see below).

The only personal data this site stores is which venues you've marked as visited or planned, and the dates of your visits. That's saved entirely in your own browser's local storage. It's never sent anywhere, and clearing your browser data will erase it, so use "Back up" in the menu to keep a copy as a CSV file. It also remembers a few settings there, such as whether you picked Light or Dark in the menu, and when it last showed you a reminder.

If you tap "Use my location", your browser asks your permission and then gives your position to the page so it can work out which lounges are nearest. That happens on your device: your location isn't saved, and isn't sent to this site or anyone else. The map does then load imagery for the area around you from OpenFreeMap (see below), as it would for any area you scroll to. Search works the same way: it only looks through the list of lounges already on your device.

"Plan a trip" works out routes on your device too. It uses a table of driving times between lounges, served from this site (worked out in advance from OSRM and OpenStreetMap data), so your start point and plans aren't sent anywhere. Two things only happen if you tap them: "Google Maps" opens that day's route in Google Maps (or your phone's maps app), which then sees those stops like any directions you look up; and "Share" makes a link with the trip's lounges after the #, the part of a link that browsers don't send to the site. A trip that starts from your location leaves your location out of the link.

This site loads two things: the public list of The Lounges' venues (names, addresses and opening hours), refreshed periodically from The Lounges' own website and served from this site; and the map imagery, which comes from OpenFreeMap, a free, open-source map service. Your browser requests map images for the area you're viewing directly from OpenFreeMap, so, as with any website, it receives standard request details such as your IP address. Nothing about your visited or planned lounges is included.

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. To see roughly how many people use it, it runs Cloudflare Web Analytics, a small script that reports each page view to Cloudflare: the page address, the referring site, your browser and device type, your approximate country (worked out from your IP address), and how quickly the page loaded. Cloudflare says it doesn't use cookies or local storage for this and doesn't fingerprint or track individual visitors; the site owner only sees totals. It never includes which lounges you've visited or planned.

Standard web hosting logs (such as IP address and browser type) may also be collected by Cloudflare for security and operational purposes, as with any website.

Who runs this site, and your rights

Lounge Map UK is an independent hobby project run by one person. It isn't affiliated with The Lounges or Loungers. The site owner is the "controller" for the small amount of personal data described above (the visit counts and hosting logs held by Cloudflare). The legal basis is legitimate interests: knowing whether people use the map and keeping the site working and secure.

Under UK data protection law you can ask what data is held about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or object to it being used. In practice the site owner only sees totals, so there is usually nothing that identifies you. To ask a question or make a request, use the contact form. The form is a Google Form, so what you type into it is handled by Google; it isn't loaded by the map itself. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
